My Why: Eleanor Davis

Eleanor Davis
RN

Eleanor Davis was born in Las Vegas, Nevada. As a child she moved around often as a child and lived in Texas, Wyoming, and California. She graduated high school in Tyler, Texas but did not continue onto college until later in life. She worked in mortgage finance and during one of the recessions had the opportunity to return to school. She worked her way through college and obtained her Bachelors of Science in Nursing in 2008. She is continuing her education currently to acquire and FNP certification. She has worked extensively with underserved populations such as persons with disabilities, children in foster-care, and the senior population. She has eight grown children, three of whom were adopted from her brother who is now in recovery for methamphetamine addiction. No grandchildren but she has a grand-dog and grand-cat. She enjoys being outdoors, hiking, running, cycling and camping. Her greatest accomplishment was she was able to complete the San Antonio Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon in 2017 and would like to eventually do a thru-hike on the Pacific Coast Trail or Appalachian Trail.

My Why:

I grew up with alcoholic parents (dad being an Army veteran) and was in and out of foster care as a child. My brother is now in recovery for an addiction to methamphetamine. This resulted in the loss of his children to foster care as well and I was able to adopt them.  One of my children is now retired from the Air Force and has PTSD.  Seeing the generational cycle of addiction and trauma repeat in my family has helped me to seek out treatment for myself and my own family but has inspired me to help others break the cycle in their own lives.  I have never felt more like I was living my purpose than when supporting others in their journey to achieve their own purpose.
