My Why: Sarah Hanna

Sarah Hanna
LCDC Intern

Sarah Hanna moved to Bandera Tx. when she was sixteen years old. She loves living in Bandera, and has a strong sense of community pride. Sarah recently graduated from San Antonio College, and got her Licensed Chemical Dependency License. (LCDC). She is continuing her education and is enrolled in Midwestern State University to get her Bachelor’s degree. Sarah has plans to go all the way for her Master’s Degree in Counseling, by becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor. (LPC). She wants to work in the addictions field, and even after she gets her Master’s degree, because she believes helping people overcome addiction is her life’s calling.

Before coming to Warriors Heart Sarah worked in local restaurants as a server. She has always been a hard worker and motivated. Sarah is a proud member of the recovery community in the Hill Country, and believes recovery is possible for anyone who wants it.

My Why:

The reason that I decided to work at Warriors Heart is because I believe in the cause. My father was a police officer before we moved to Bandera. He was in a terrible accident that resulted in the death of his best friend and partner. As a result, my father quit the police force. To this day, my dad has flashbacks of his accident. He has stayed in the security field, and he is my hero. I am so proud of him for serving and protecting our community all these years.

Another reason that I choose to work at Warriors Heart is because I am in recovery myself. I have been in a place of hopelessness, when I lived to use, and used to live. I could not see my way out. Then I went to an inpatient treatment center (it was one of many) and my counselor there made such an impact on my life. I respected her, and I listened to her. She understood me, just like I understand the people who come through the doors at Warriors Heart. I know that I found my calling; and I truly believe “No person should be left behind.
